Your China Opportunity

As the world’s fastest growing consumer market – and the only major global economy to grow last year – China offers enormous potential for British, Nordic and Dutch businesses. The country has a burgeoning middle class of 400 million people who have strong spending power and a taste for quality international goods.

Until recently, visitor numbers from China were on the rise, with a record 883,000 Chinese visits to the UK in 2019 – and shopping as one of their top activities (according to VisitBritain). While the pandemic has temporarily put tourism on hold, Chinese consumers are increasingly going online to interact with European brands, sparking greater demand for imported goods.

The good news for businesses of all sizes is that technology is making it increasingly easy to trade overseas. This is especially true in a market as digitally advanced as China, which is leading the way in retail and payments, creating richer online experiences to drive customer engagement and sales. And while the market’s scale and cultural differences can make trading in China feel like a daunting prospect, the opportunity is easier than many realise – and too big to ignore.
